Deanna Durbin was born in Winnipeg, Canada on December 4, 1921. Raised in California, she was signed to a contract with MGM at 13, and a year later was hired by a competing studio, Universal Pictures.
After being launched to fame overnight with her first full-length film, Three Smart Girls, Deanna starred in over twenty-one movies before moving to France at the age of 28. She remained in happy obscurity for almost six decades, before dying in Paris in 2013.
